Keller provides dewatering and earth retention solutions at a new wave park, located just two blocks from where the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay converge.
The project
A 2.67-acre surf lagoon joins the beach resort town, adding a lagoon and wave pool that will create almost 1,000 waves per hour. With a planned 14-ft excavation, the working grade for foundation construction would be 7 ft below the static groundwater table.
Keller was contracted to provide excavation support and dewatering to facilitate the excavation in dry conditions. Keller installed 835 linear feet of 35-ft-long sheet piles, followed by the installation of a system of shallow and deep dewatering wells. The dewatering system successfully lowered the groundwater table to 5 feet below the planned excavation depth.
Due to the shallow excavation required, Keller installed the shallow wellpoints using a jetting system rather than traditional drilling, which reduced costs and schedule. Keller installed 73 wellpoints coupled with four deep wells.
