Keller worked to successfully complete the displacement pile scope of work on time and on budget. This project received the ENR Southeast Award of Merit in 2018.

Orlando Airport Intermodal Facility displacement piles
Displacement piles excavated.

The project

The Orlando Airport was expanding to include a new Intermodal Terminal Facility and Passenger Drop-Off Lobby Rail. The Turner-Kiewit joint venture turned to Keller to install displacement CFA piles as part of the deep foundation system.

The challenge

Displacement piles were to be installed between previously poured driven pile caps to support the elevated rail. This meant limited real estate for our work area per grid line. All piles had to be installed within 41 working days; which worked out to installing 15 piles per day.

The solution

By working 24 hours per day with multiple shifts, Keller was able to complete the scope of work ahead of schedule and within budget with no safety incidents. We installed 609 displacement piles to support the Intermodal Terminal Facility and Passenger Drop-Off Lobby Rail Platform.
